This is one of those jobs I picked up and dropped.
In this case from the partner doing the design and then let go to another manager for the rest of the job.
The job wasn't behind, but the client wanted a bid set ASAP and as cheaply as possible, to confirm he could afford his dream house before we went any further.
No one was free but me, and everyone knew it, because I was leaving for my vacation. In addition, in a unique situation such as this, producing an instant and inexpensive bid set, not having all the info, or any engineers, won't stop me. I use my broad experience to fill in the missing info, and when that won't do, add notes and allowances to make sure all necessary work is addressed.
The company picked up all the lost costs of the canceled vacation, and I went home for a week long charrette in which I did all the dimensioning, detailing, stair rise and run, other code related issues, and some MEP and some structural work. I prepared notes and sketches for the CAD staff to produce a bid set. Two CAD operators turned out the drawings in a month. After bidding, much was redone, as was intended, to reflect the final finish, materials and detaling the client would expect. Along with that, there was a mini recession at the time, and the client had cash flow problems which cut the overall scope.
Scope: Gut renovation including deepening basement and extending under backyard.
Architectural Tasks: Production / Job Captain to plan, create, schedule, and produce bid set construction documents from design documentation including detailing, preliminary structural and MEP sizing and schematic set work. Detailing was expedited using freehand sketching / drawing program and pen tablet, which gives you the best of two worlds, cut, copy, paste, flip, infinite erase and trace with the effortless, unconstrained, interfaceless free hand drawing.
Construction Work: Parapets, chimney, face brick, masonry, brick, stone, paint removal, cleaning, pointing, kitchen exhaust flue, waterproofing, areaway repair, iron picket fencing, areaway drain repair, concrete structural repair, sidewalk repairs, paving repairs, sidewalk grate repairs and modifications.
